Dawson stands at about 5'0" tall, relatively short when compared to other people their own age. They have a pretty slim build, with no real muscle to show off and almost no curves. When it comes to complexion, Dawson is quite pale - although they don't burn that quickly in direct sunlight - and has quite a few freckles dotted around their face and shoulders.
Dawson has naturally black hair, which they bleach slightly and dye a dark green by themself - with some lighter green highlights. They tend to let the black roots grow out for a while between dyes. Their eyes are a bright amber, sometimes appearing yellow in certain lighting conditions. Along with dyeing their own hair, Dawson also cuts it themself - and it's usually kept in a short, messy style. The hair that frames their face is about shoulder length, with the rest cut slightly shorter.
When if comes to clothing, Dawson acts like they aren't really into fashion. They tend to wear what is comfortable and easy to move in, usually in green or blue colours, and their wardrobe consists of a lot of hoodies and oversized jackets. They give of the impression of someone who is 'effortlessly fashionable' but Dawson actually puts a lot of thought and effort into each outfit they wear - they just pretend they don't.
Dawson has a lot of old scars in various areas of their body, the worst ones being some significant scars down their left arm. They're visible but healed now, so they don't really cause much physical discomfort, but Dawson doesn't like talking about them and tends to cover them with clothing. Dawson also has a tattoo on their right arm of what looks like a stylized Braviary.
Upon first impressions, Dawson can come across as quite lazy and uncaring - definitely not the typical student you would expect to see at Almia's Ranger School. Dawson tends to keep to themself, not getting involved in rumours or drama, and if a friend needs general help they're first response is usually no - although if it's something more serious they may help anyway. They seem to lack any real ambition, in both their life and potential career. It can be easy to assume that Dawson doesn't even want to train as a Ranger, especially as it's quite uncommon to actually see them doing anything towards their studies.
While it may be true that Dawson lacks an overall goal and ambition, this doesn't mean Dawson doesn't care about the Ranger School or helping people in general. Dawson honestly has no idea what they want to do with their life, and with an older sibling who was already well-known as a Ranger there are a lot of expectations to live up to. Dawson tends to study and practice when no one is around, preferring to be by themself where possible - although this does come with the downside of people assuming they don't do anything.
Dawson also has a slight interest in Pokemon training, and taking on the new Badge Challenge - but the interest isn't strong enough that they would completely drop Ranger School. They only recently decided to try both, hoping to be a Warden rather than a regular Ranger, but they haven't actually spoken to anyone about it yet.
Dawson tends to keep their own thoughts and feelings to themself. They may open up slightly when talking to a close friend, but they don't like to actually show their emotions or talk about more serious subjects - and it is most common to see them with a blank expression.
It is also important to note that if you become Dawson's friend, you have a loyal friend for life - even if they seem to not care at times. Just be sure not to break their trust, because they can hold a grudge indefinitely.
Dawson was born in Almia, the youngest of two children with their older sister Esme already 6 years old at the time. Their parents adored both children, and they never wanted for anything - in fact they were often spoiled slightly by family and family friends.
As the two siblings grew up they were almost inseparable. If you saw one of them the other was probably close by, although a lot of the time it was young Dawson following their sister around although Esme didn't mind and actually helped with the care of her baby sibling. It was very common to see them in matching or coordinated outfits, and if Esme started a new hobby Dawson was usually close behind trying the exact same thing.
For the first ten years of their life, this was how things went - although as Esme got older and entered her teen years, she started to look for at least some time by herself even though the two still got on well.
When Esme was sixteen, she joined the Rangers school - graduating with full honours and being top of her class at the time. Dawson spent a lot of time with their sister while she was training - and at their young age, Dawson informed their whole family that they would be a Pokemon Ranger one day too.
Things got tense between the two siblings as Esme got more and more busy with her Ranger work, making a name for herself throughout Almia. They would spend less time together, and family members started to compare Dawson to their sister on a regular basis. Esme eventually moved away from Almia, moving to Fiore to continue to be a Pokemon Ranger and help even more people - leaving Dawson alone with all the expectations to be just like her.
Almost immediately after Dawson's sixteenth birthday, the family started to pressure them into joining the Ranger's school. They managed to hold it off for a while, just telling everyone they weren't quite ready yet, but they eventually decided to join at around eighteen just to make everyone happy - and because they did want to join, just by their own decision and not everyone else's.
During those two years, Dawson managed to meet some trainers - who had no interest in becoming Rangers but wanted to take on Almia's Badge Challenge. At first, Dawson had no interest in it - but seeing them training and preparing soon changed that. They didn't want to fully drop the Ranger School idea, but they also knew they couldn't join a Ranger Union if they started to train as well.
They eventually decided to try both, but to keep the thoughts of training to themselves for now. They just had to make it to graduation without people comparing them to Esme too much, or expecting them to join a union and to succeed just like her. The first hurdle was hoping none of the Teachers recognised their family name.
